Fellowship Opportunities for Convention 2017


NCJW is pleased to offer two different fellowships for the 47th National Convention. The first listed is the NCJW Shaping the Future Fellowship, aimed at young activists ages 21-40. The second is the NCJW Leading the Way Fellowship for rising leadership within sections nationwide. Click or scroll down to find out requirements, benefits, and more!


NCJW Shaping the Future Fellowship

NCJW, Inc. is offering a limited number of fellowships to young activists between the ages of 21-40 who are passionate about progressive issues and interested in engaging in NCJW’s social change work locally and nationally. A fellowship represents a commitment not just to the spirit of NCJW’s progressive initiatives, but to remaining an active agent of change in your home community after the convention has ended.

Applicants Must Be:
  • Passionate about NCJW’s key initiatives;
  • Between the ages of 21 and 40; AND
  • First-time attendees to an NCJW National Convention (those who have attended Washington Institute or Leaders’ Retreat are eligible to apply)

*Applicants do not need to have any prior affiliation with NCJW

What’s Covered:
  • Full $625 registration cost
  • Up to $375 for hotel costs at the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead (hotel costs to be reimbursed after convention with appropriate receipts).

* Note that travel costs are the responsibility of the applicant.

What’s Required:
  • Completed application (link below)
  • Must commit to attending entire convention (March 23–25)
  • Must remain involved with NCJW either locally or nationally in the year following. This includes a commitment to take a specific action within six months of convention, outlined in the application (must report action to NCJW).
  • Before hotel reimbursement is issued, recipients must submit a one-page reflective report on skills acquired and lessons learned as a result of attending convention, including how it will help them to complete their specific action.

Please note: If selected to receive a fellowship, your name/information may be used for publicity and/or donor recognition purposes.

Deadline: Completed applications are due by Wednesday, January 18, 2017.
Decision notifications will be sent out in late January.

We invite applicants to submit an optional recommendation from a colleague, supervisor, or
community/spiritual leader in order to get to know them better from a different perspective. This
person should submit a 3-5 sentence recommendation on the applicant’s behalf addressing their
leadership potential and commitment to social action. It may be sent directly to Aviva Crystal, NCJW’s
Community Engagement Associate, at acrystal@ncjw.org.

NCJW Leading the Way Fellowship

NCJW, Inc. is offering a limited number of fellowships to help cultivate emerging leaders from sections with an interest in taking on greater roles and responsibilities. A fellowship represents a commitment not just to the spirit of NCJW’s progressive initiatives, but to remaining an active agent of change in your home community after the convention has ended.

Applicants Must Be:
  • Nominated as a new or prospective leader by their section’s leadership; AND
  • First-time attendees to an NCJW National Convention (those who have attended Washington Institute or Leaders’ Retreat are eligible to apply)
What’s Covered:
  • Full $625 registration cost

* Note that travel and hotel costs are the responsibility of the applicant and/or the section.

What’s Required:
  • Completed personal application (link below)
  • Applicants must have a recommendation submitted on their behalf by a member of their section leadership (link below)
  • Must commit to attending entire convention (March 23–25)
  • Must remain involved with NCJW in the year following as a leader at the section level. This could be any board or committee position as needed by the section (must inform NCJW, Inc. of position).
  • Following convention, recipients must also submit a one-page reflective report on skills acquired and lessons learned as a result of attending convention, including ways that it contributed to their capacity for leadership at the section level.
